July Prayer Letter

Unrest and Demonstrations Continue in Haiti

We continue to covet your prayers. A large part of the Haitian population is asking the President to resign. They are confident that he has embezzled millions. Government offices have been closed and State employees have not been paid for months. Serious currency devaluation has doubled the price of food and all other commodities. One is never sure what a day may bring – demonstrations or calm! Please, we ask that you continue your prayers for Pastor/Senator Dieupie, who serves as a beacon in the middle of all this.

Camp in Bossier and VBS in Mont Flueri

Haiti’s political unrest initially caused concern for parents who were sending their children to camp during the first week of camp. So during the first week, in order to ease that concern, Pastor/Senator Dieupie put security guards at the camp from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. (This security is available whenever necessary.) Camp will continue until August 3rd. Attendance has been great, with many decisions for Christ and positive changes in behavior. Please continue to keep the camp in your prayers, and we will share all the results of the camp with you at the end of summer. Thank you.

The VBS was outstanding, with 27 professions of faith. We studied the life of Daniel. On the day that Pastor Rejouis gave the lesson on Shadrach, Mishach, and Abed-Nego and discussed Nebuchadnezzar’s image of gold, 15 young people came forward to ask prayer that they wouldn’t worship idols anymore. On the last day of VBS, the daughter of a prominent witch doctor perfectly recited all 10 verses from the lessons. Our hearts were thrilled to listen to so many recite both the stories and the verses! We praise the Lord for the profound effect this VBS had on the community.

Hosanna Baptist Church 43rd Annual Bible Conference

The Annual Bible Conference is Hosanna’s most loved activity. There will be several speakers each addressing the theme of “Deliverance is in Prayer.” Please join us in praying that God will use the speakers to motivate believers in prayer for their nation. Thank you.

“It doesn’t matter, because I’m going to be a chief in Hell”

These words were spoken from the mouth of 70-year-old André Légalité more 30 years ago, when warned by his cousin that he would go to Hell if he didn’t come to Christ for salvation. He was deeply involved in satanic worship! Then one day the Spirit of God got hold of him with crushing conviction about his final destination. Completely broken, André came to Christ and has never been the same since. He is so absolutely bold and fearless in his witness, covering all of Port-au-Prince and in the most dangerous areas dominated by gangs. He walks straight into the face of those who are armed and tells them that he HAS to warn them! He speaks of himself as the watchman in Ezekiel 33:6 and as one who he has been to Hell and back. His fearlessness shocks and intimidates his listeners! He has brought hundreds to Christ. He was a jeweler (of sorts) by profession, but lost his home and business during the earthquake. He now resides in Jacmel and makes regular trips on foot (45 miles) into Port-au-Prince, witnessing all along the way. I (Sarah) had the blessed privilege of visiting this saint in his little one-room home in the center of his garden during my recent trip. His entire person radiates Christ in the most humble way. While our visit lasted 90 minutes, it seemed more like 30 minutes to me. Frankly, I have never encountered anyone like Mr. Légalité!!

With thanks to you and gratitude in our hearts to God for you,

Tom & Sarah
